
When full, players can activate unique skills for each character that have a wide variety of effects. There is also a new “Voltage” gauge in the bottom right of the screen, which is raised by dealing and receiving damage. Using a skill to inflict damage will also put them out of guard mode. For example, Agi will make enemies take extra damage at the end of a turn while Zio will prevent movement for a turn. While Persona skills are traditionally used to find and exploit enemy weaknesses, in Persona 5 Tactica they are used to impart various effects. To get an opponent out of guard mode, players can use a melee attack to knock them out of cover and then potentially pile on with additional attacks. However, taking damage while not in guard mode will grant the enemy an additional attack.Įnemies will also utilise guard mode. Cover plays an important role in game if players end their turn behind cover they enter guard mode, which can lessen damage taken or even fully block an attack. Persona 5 Tactica features a tactical combat system incorporating many of Persona 5’s combat elements, including the Baton Pass and Persona skills, with up to three party members in at any one time. After a fight, the Legionnaires’ leader Marie shows up and brainwashes all of the Phantom Thieves except for Joker and Morgana. Persona 5 Tactica sees the Phantom Thieves transported to a mysterious realm where they are attacked by a force called the Legionnaries.

There’s some new stuff to chew on here as well. My eyes were pretty much fluttering every time a menu showed up on screen, and the cool transitions to All-Out team attacks make the jump, too. Otherwise, yep, that sure looked like Atlus plastered an XCOM-like with Persona 5’s seemingly effortless style. That’s definitely a shame, but I’m just happy that best boy Ryuji isn’t paywalled after his dismal placement in the character popularity polls. Atlus have announced that Akechi and Kasumi are included in the "Repaint Your Heart" DLC, a paintball-themed challenge pack available to buy at launch. Spending more time with our favourite demon-bullying high-schoolers is always nice, but as mentioned before, two core characters are locked behind DLC bars.
